We have recently completed our first piped water supply in a very rural parish called Ivukula. This was a complicated project that took almost two years to develop from initial concept. The installation comprises a solar electric powered water pump, a 10,000 litre water storage tank and six distribution points to the tap stands, which are all located within a 800m radius. The construction of the system also involved laying 2.5km of underground pipework. The system is currently providing a clean water supply to two schools and 10,000 people living in Ivukula parish. There is the potential to expand the water system to a wider area in the future given the significant water yield that the borehole is producing and the very populated catchment, which currently has a lack of clean water provision.
